DATA MINING CUP goes into fourth round!
Chemnitz / March 3, 2003 - Only a few weeks and the starting signal
for the 4th DATA MINING CUP will be given
Students from all over the world impatiently look to Chemnitz because
the international contest to the DATA MINING CUP (DMC) is standing in
the starting holes. As in the years before, many national and
international students will search for the best solution of a data
analysis problem.
In this year, the prudsys AG and the Chemnitz University of
Technology again have worked out a task with a high relation to
practice: Each day, more than 25 Millions of undesired e-mails -
so-called spam mails - are sent. This corresponds to one tenth of all
sent e-mails worldwide. The task specification of the contest to the
DATA MINING CUP 2003 is to identify spam files by means of Data Mining
(i.e. intelligent data analysis).
From March 1, 2003, interested students can register online under
www.data-mining-cup.com for taking part in the contest. On April
15, 2003, the contest starts with handing out the task. By May 14, 2003,
the participants then can hand in their solutions. The best participants
will get attractive prizes such as a trip to the International
Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) at the end of
August in Washington/USA as well as attractive hardware and software
packages.
The prizes will be presented during the DMC User Event Days that will
take place on June 18-20, 2003 in Chemnitz. Moreover, this three-day
event will offer the conference visitor an insight into
practice-relevant knowledge in application-oriented area of Data Mining
and Customer Relationship Management, in the form of lectures,
presentations, exhibits and job talks. The exchange of experiences and
views among practicians, scientists, providers/suppliers and students
will be promoted. News, trends as well as concrete application areas in
these fields will be presented in detail an discussed.
About the philosophy of the DATA MINING CUP:
The DATA MINING CUP is a unique combination of IT students contest
and specialist conference. Objective of the Data Mining to reveal
"treasures" so far undiscovered, i.e. hidden relations, patterns and
trends in electronic customer and sales databases to utilize them for a
substantially improved marketing and a more efficient sale. To be able
to solve this task specification now and in the future, not only a good
Data Mining analysis tool, but also the appropriate know-how is
required!
To cause university graduates to acquaint themselves with the topic
of Data Mining and Analytical CRM and to get this know-how, the DATA
MINING CUP contest was initiated in 2000 that is organized each year and
where well-known partners and sponsors take part.
The highlight of the DATA MINING CUP are the DMC User Event Days.
This three-day specialist conference forms an optimal platform not only
for students, but also for people from the economy who are interested in
Data Mining to inform themselves about news in the field of Data Mining
and Analytical CRM.
