Spring 2008 marked the start of the ninth edition of the DATA-MINING-CUP (DMC) Competition. Students of domestic and international universities, technical universities and university coop programs were invited to try their hand at finding the optimal solution to a data analysis problem.

As every year, a current data mining issue was the focus of the 2008 DMC Competition. To achieve a high degree of practical relevance as well as to enable students to apply their theoretical knowledge in reality, the DMC Competition was supported once again by a special partner. In addition, the DMC Competition is now a permanent course component at many universities.

The prize...
Up for grabs for top participants were attractive prizes such as participation in the KDD 2008, the world’s largest international conference for "Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining" (August 24-27, 2008 in Las Vegas). Prizes were awarded on June 4, 2008 as part of the DMC User Days 2008 (Leipzig/Germany).
