Over the past 16 years the DATA MINING CUP (DMC for short) has become a world-renowned student competition in the field of intelligent data analysis. 120 teams from a total of 88 institutions in 30 countries took part in this year’s DMC, which came to a close on May 18, 2016. Every year, prudsys AG, a company specializing in big data and real-time personalization in retail, calls on students from all around the world to put their expertise to the test on a current, practical data mining task. This year the focus was on predicting returns in online fashion retail. The influence of rebates and coupons was of particular interest. Competitors took anonymized historical order data from a real online shop and used it to develop a model that makes it possible to predict new orders including their returns. The teams had a total of six weeks to submit their results.

Attractive cash prizes await the winners of the competition as well as a trip to the prudsys personalization summit 2016 in Berlin, during the course of which the prizes for the best DMC teams will be awarded. The two-day conference is the leading event for news and trends in the field of omni-channel personalization in retail. This year the prudsys personalization summit will take place from June 28 to 29, 2016, at the andel’s Hotel in Berlin. The conference program features presentations by well-known companies like Würth, 1-2-3.tv, E. Ziegler, nu3 and K-Mail Order (Klingel) as well as industry experts such as Adrian Hotz (E-Commerce Beratung) and Dr. Eva Stüber (IFH Köln). There is still time to register.
